4 Practical Ways of Receiving Scripture Daily!

One evening I sat and reflected on the times when I barely read the Word of God and how lost I truly felt. Days and days would go by and I would just utter a simple prayer and the prayer of Jabez, hoping that God would reveal himself to me.

I didn't doubt his protection or faithfulness during these times but I was disappointed in my lack of faithfulness towards Him.  So I thought to myself, I can't possibly be the only one who goes through something like this. Even though I do read the bible more regularly now, there are still some days that I fail to crack the Word open and partake.

I figure that this is a common problem but I wanted to offer some practical solutions that could possibly help ensure that you continue to receive the daily bread of life through the Word of God; myself included.

Practical Solution #1

Use an e-reader/Kindle
etc.  My mother recently scooped up an e-reader from Target on clearance that she plans to use solely for the purpose of reading the bible.  I asked her why didn't she just carry the bible around in her bag lady purse?  She stated that she wanted to read it on the e-reader.  Perhaps she wants to be cool in public, if so maybe you do too.  Purchase one and try it out.

Practical Solution #2

Use audio.  Listening to music and other things helps me work faster and more efficient.  I am more likely inclined to actually enjoy cleaning the house.  Therefore if you like to listen to stuff maybe purchasing the bible on cd or your smartphone may do the trick.

Practical Solution #3

Incorporate scripture in your decor Putting a piece of scripture up in every room of the house is a goal on my 51 list.  I actually have 2 enlarged prints waiting for me to mount them or frame them. Heck I even sell them in my Etsy Shop all pretty like if you feel so inclined to use one.  Not only that, there are tons of freebies you can print out as well.  Just sayin...you have options here.

Practical Solution #4

Carry scripture cards with you.  Whenever you feel yourself needing a specific Word from God you'll always have your favorites on hand.  Plus it's a great way to memorize scripture.

Practical Solution #5

Last, you can always set a specific time and sit down with the bible and just delve in!  I usually try to do mine during the evening.  In fact my 2 year old knows my schedule.  After I shower she asks me am I going to read the bible and sometimes she likes to join me.  Some nights I follow my reading plan that I am using to read through the bible in a year and other nights God always amazes me by answering one of my thoughts and leading me EXACTLY to where I need to be.

How do you prefer to receive the Word of God on a daily basis?

I am currently on a reading plan as well, Latoya! My daughter and I sharpen each other every evening with what new (to us) and fascinating things God is doing in our lives and things that he has revealed to us through his word. As a matter of fact, we both just signed up for a study on the Book of Colossians through Good Morning Girls (www.goodmorninggirls.org) which will begin in September. Check it out! If you would like to join us in this study, I will more than likely post on my blog where you will be free to post any comments as well.
